Brouwerij De Dolle Brouwers
Roeselarestraat 12B, 8600 Esen (Diksmuide)
The 'mad brewers' who revived the old Costenoble brewery in 1980, famous for Oerbier and the strong blonde Dulle Teve.
The story of De Dolle Brouwers
De Dolle Brouwers, the 'mad brewers', began in 1980 when Kris Herteleer and his brothers bought the failing Costenoble brewery at Esen, near Diksmuide, rather than let it close. Their idiosyncratic, hop-aromatic and age-worthy ales, Oerbier, Arabier, Dulle Teve and the Christmas Stille Nacht, helped inspire the revival of artisan Belgian brewing.
Many De Dolle labels were drawn by Kris Herteleer himself, an artist as well as the brewer.
