The story of Mort Subite

The farm brewery at Kobbegem is first mentioned in 1604, and Felix Jan De Keersmaeker took it over in 1869, giving it the name Brouwerij De Keersmaeker. The Mort Subite name arrived in 1970 with the takeover of the celebrated Brussels geuze cafe A la Mort Subite, and the brewery has carried it since.

The name means sudden death, and comes from a Brussels dice game called pietjesbak, in which the round that decided the loser was the mort subite.

Mort Subite Oude Gueuze
