Grimbergen (Alken-Maes)
Belgium, Grimbergen Abbey
An abbey beer brand with a long history, offering a range of classic Belgian styles brewed under license.
The story of Grimbergen (Alken-Maes)
The Norbertine Abbey of Grimbergen was founded in 1128. Rebuilt repeatedly after fire and war, it took the phoenix as its emblem with the motto Ardet nec consumitur, burnt but not destroyed, which still marks every Grimbergen beer.
The phoenix on every Grimbergen label reflects an abbey that burned down and rose again three times.
